Living Wide Open

Living Wide Open

by Dawna Markovaaudacious

I will not die an unlived life.

I will not live in fear

of falling or catching fire.

I choose my living to open to me,

to make me less afraid,

more accessible,

to loosen my heart

until it becomes a wing,

a torch, a promise.

I choose to risk my significance,

to live so that which came  to me as a seed

goes to the next as a blossom,

and that which came to me as a blossom,

goes on as fruit.

  1. The fourth line needs a correction–you combined it with the poem’s 5th line. A beautiful poem needs to be copied accurately to get the full effect of the poet’s mind and heart.

  2. Thanks for your concern. I double-checked the poem in the author’s book and it is correct as it is (the copyright is 2000 for the edition I have).
